The country around the town where I live, is almost identical to Tolkien's imagination of the Shire, if probably a bit colder. Very green, and sub-alpine, but still Australian. There are big oaks in the gardens less than half a kilometer from me, and also in a park just next to a supermarket.

We have frost for nine months of the year, but 70-100F (20-40C) for the other three. It's insane.


I often think of Kyneton when hearing this, fairly seriously. Some of the geriatric Boomers who live here have grown distinctly hobbit-like in their old age, as well.

How exactly does this pertain to the topic, petrus? Are you working on an Ogham set?

I guess that response was just triggered when you mentioned thinking about the characteristics of the land in one's immediate vicinity.

No need to apologize or delete posts - perhaps that was just me sounding snippier than intended (it happens, I was multi-tasking...) This is a fine idea for a separate thread, I just meant, I didn't see relevance to this specific topic. If you don't mind I will undelete it and maybe you can start a new thread?
