Default The Sound of Trees

magical - check this out.

"Artist Bartholomäus Traubeck has custom-built a record player that is able to "play" cross-sectional slices of tree trunks. The result is his artpiece "Years," an audio recording of tree rings being read by a computer and turned into music, much like a record player's needle reads the grooves on an LP."

Very cool. I wonder how he assigned chords, notes, and such?

Fascinating, he uses a Playstation Eyecamera and the music software Ableton Live to create this. I'm not sure how the Eyecamera deciphers the tree rings into sound, or how it is assigned specific notes.

There are limitations to this setup certainly, but the concept of Art/Music is A+

The rings of a tree are an outgrowth of the tree that is completely under the guidance of the Fibonacci sequence/Golden Mean/Phi . . . the ordering of everything natural in the Universe unfolds this way. To say the least, it is remarkable to hear something representative of this universal law.

I found this looking for more on the sound of trees...
Sounds of plants. Very cool.

Wow! (Must play havoc on the old gramophone needle, though...)

Have to confess, I like the classical tone of trees much better than the electro-sound of plants...

trees are quite talented when you think about, just standing in the forest they make a sound, the wind can make them sing, and if you play a slice of them on a record player they can "compose" whole pieces of music

I've always been found of them, then again it runs in my family, my late uncle used to be late for school because he would stop to have conversations with the trees
