Anyone here interested in Runes at all?

for a time i was fascinated by the invisible line that connected symbolism to the "abstract vibration" everyone tends to think is the main culpret behind everything. i experimented with a few systems of runes to see if it highlighted this invisible connection.

did you have any luck with this?

A while ago Mr cheese gave me an idea to make 'journeys' through doorways with a particular rune above them so I could explore each rune which didn't really work for me, personally.

you asking me? i did have luck in doing this but it had next to nothing to do with the runes i was using. learning this connection was one of my "big breakthroughs" in using Tonglen.

I can't separate Runes from the Norse pantheon.

I have an on-again, off-again relationship with the Norse deities... but I respect them greatly, and see them as intrinsically connected with runes.

Therefore, while I would be interested in learning more about the individual runes and rune systems, it would need to be within the context of the Norse pantheon... you know, for example, with a given rune, explaining not only the divinatory meanings, but also the context - what the rune means in the mythos, which god/dess(es) it is connected to, etc.

Does that make sense?

Yeah, thanks for the answer. I didn't know you were into things like Tonglen.

I'm trying to work with runes without much success thus far. I don't really want to use them for divination as much as for spell casting. I feel that first I need to connect with the stones. I'd love some guidance, if anyone has any words of wisdom.

Read about them first. Then sing them. Sing their meanings, their names, their stories, everything. Hum to yourself when you can't find the words you need. I've found that the tune and speed of the humming changes depending on the rune you're trying to connect with. Sounding the runes out loud builds up a very strong connection. I would even go as far as to say that the runes are oral magic more so than they are written magic.

I have a little Runelore course here on the forum, but it is far from complete at this moment. Perhaps it'll help you connect with the first Aett, though?

They spoke to me! I spent some time reading in a couple of books I have and cleansed the runes with rosemary smoke. Then I invoked Father Odin to help me. I pulled some runes (a three rune reading. Is that the correct terminology?) and it made perfect sense, just like if I was reading tarot. Interestingly, the advice the runes gave me was the same as the oracle cards I read the other day had.

One of the books mentioned singing also. It called it intoning. I want to learn more about that.
