An old teacher of mine who some of you may be familiar with kept trying to get me to do variations of this exercise, some simple some kind of involved and even ritualistic, that was basically aimed at identifying, developing contact with, and then killing your own internal archetypes. This...is probably not a great idea, right? Or is it?

That sounds remarkably much like killing your old self or some practice like that? I think it can be a good process when you're stuck in self-destructive patterns and need to move on from that, but it shouldn't really turn into this idea where the self no longer matters and your identity needs to be destroyed.
