Dreams in America by Luka Bloom.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CPhM7L36YI This song has a special significance for me. Firstly, it's been my favourite song for the last 20-odd years. It's one of the songs that I would like to be played at my funeral (now there's a thread that might be interesting - name your top three funeral songs). Secondly, I was in the north of Ireland a few weeks ago (County Donegal), because my wife had got tickets to see Luka Bloom as she knows I'm a big fan. He was playing in the back room venue of the hotel we were staying in. I met him in the hotel lobby earlier in the day and asked if he would play this song. He said that he hadn't played it for years, but he would see what he could do. Sure enough, he introduced the song by saying that a guy from Aberdeen that he had met in the lobby had requested it. My god, it was a special moment hearing that song live. I love this song.

What a wonderful story - I adore Luka Bloom and while I've never met him (he seems like a great guy as well as artist) several of his songs have deep meaning for me as well. Including, Dreams in America.
Although this song is about a lover, passages of it resonate with me letting Lila go, my dog who was dying of cancer at 13, and I had to release her to death. Just writing this I am crying my eyes out, and she has been gone 10 years now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOTbe5b3kHw

So true. I bought that Luka Bloom CD as I elaized I don;t have it, and not nearly enough melancholic Celtic music n my collection (she said, tongue firmly in cheek).
This morning I am listening to a great favorite of mine, Richard Searles. I have all his discs and often pop them all in my player and just bliss out. ![]() http://www.earthdancemusic.com/

On a 'Vikings' vibe right now. On season 3 DVD. Listening to the soundtrack albums, much of which feature Einar Selvik from Wardruna.

"Songs of the Soul," which is a weekly program on our local community radio station. The host, Lady J Griot, is amazing. She does this presentation at our local Pagan conference that's part blues history lesson, part kick-ass blues concert, and it's all about the history of voodoo and hoodoo symbolism in early blues music. Other than the panels I'm on, it's the only thing that I absolutely will not miss at the conference every year.

Peter Kater today, a little mournful, a little bittersweet, but perfect music for February in the Hills.
