We only have the Anglo-Saxon rune poem for this rune. Gebo, or Gyfu, means gift literally, but remember that in German, 'gift' means poison

Anglo-saxon rune poem:

Generosity brings credit and honour, which support one's dignity;
it furnishes help and subsistence
to all broken men who are devoid of aught else.

I have missed having a look at this one... It seems much more oppositional than I would have perhaps thought - I would love to hear the rationale behind the design - but then, that is true with all of them!! :-)

Great question! I will say this -- have you ever given a truly great gift? In my own experience, it puts me up against everything within myself; my greed, my vanity, my selfish egotism, etc. That's one of the ways I know that I'm giving a worthwhile gift. If it means nothing to me, I could either keep it or let it go -- I feel like that becomes conveyed energetically in the gift, and has a reciprocal effect upon my own karma, or rather, overall quality of Being. Ultimately, the self and the other are unified, hence the unicursal hexagram, a perfect representation of the reconciliation of opposites involved in tantric eXchange. The 'gift' is not so much the item as the giving, and that giving comes from a central point in oneself, a point with-knowing (con- with, -science- knowing). To me, this rune has a deep connection to conscience AS the gift, as well as Law, generosity, exchange, tantric alchemy and decision making. Does any of that make sense or resonate with you?
