Old English rune poem:

Riding seems easy to every warrior while he is indoors
and very courageous to him who traverses the high-roads
on the back of a stout horse.

Old Icelandic rune poem:

Riding, joy of the horsemen
and speedy journey
and toil of the steed.

Old Norwegian:

Riding is said to be the worst thing for horses;
Reginn forged the finest sword.

The body of the dragon has a rune cipher, that's what those ogham-like staves are -- I wonder if anyone here reads cipher runes?? This one isn't too difficult.

I don't read cipher runes, but this would have to be my favourite so far. You are doing some great work with these, Leben.

Here's the cipher:

small lines, beginning at the dragon's head, indicate which aett (or one of three groupings of eight runes), then the long lines that follow indicate which rune in the aett. Once the word is complete, the side of the center line that the small line is one flips to the other side
