Default DrumWolf's trip to Glastonbury

Two weeks ago, I was in Glastonbury, in the south-west of England. I was there for two days and what a magical place it was!

One of my first stops was to the Goddess Temple. This is a large room dedicated to the Goddess, staffed by volunteers and ordained Goddess Priestesses. It’s basically a place of quiet reflection and meditation, allowing you to just sit and be. Goddess paintings, imagery and statues adorned the room and there is an altar at one end where candles can be lit.

I sat in there for about half an hour, just absorbing the atmosphere and the music. This CD was playing whilst I was there: ‘Returning – Mother of Us All’.

I was the only male there, and I had read beforehand that some individuals running the place weren’t too keen on having males present. However, despite not having the requisite number of vaginas, I was fully welcomed into the space by those present. Glastonbury can be a bit full-on, so this place of quiet sanctuary was an absolute must.

Next was the White Spring Wells. This area of Somerset is renowned for its spring waters, hence the surrounding towns and cities have names such as Bath and Wells.
The White Spring Wells is an old brick pump house that was taken over by the community, and water from the springs runs through the building and is harnessed in pools and streams. Again, it’s a site of reflection and meditation. Beyond the entrance, there is no natural light, so the place is lit entirely by candles.
There are alcoves and side rooms where you can sit, meditate and offer thanks to whatever you believe in, and people can leave tokens and offerings on the various tables and platforms. I lit a candle for my two dogs, who I miss dearly.

Chalice Wells is one of the defining features of Glastonbury. It is set in an area of garden and woodland and, again, there is a constant stream of water coming from a spring.

My final stop was walking up Glastonbury Tor, THE symbol of Glastonbury. Due to its geology, the Tor is a hill that stands out from the relatively flat surrounding landscape. On top of the Tor is a tower:

At a market stall in the town centre, I bought this painting called 'Awen' by an artist, Rod Bowman:

All in all, a magical experience.

You've definitely got to go. If you and Rosie have done / are doing the Avalonian Mysteries courses, you will both love the Glastonbury area.

Thanks for the name. I didn't know who the artist was.

Another artist who paints for the Temple is Tiana:
