You do not need to buy the books that come w/the Tarot decks, nor do you need to read and memorize their descriptions. Tarot is a tool of divination and while there are some really good books out there (not the ones that have generic descriptions of things) that are of great assistance, the info you receive should come from within.

There's nothing wrong w/memorizing the generic meanings, but the reason I say that is bc when a specific card comes down in a reading there will be many times when the "traditional"/generic meaning doesn't remotely apply. You have to look at the whole story.

Well that's your method and I greatly respect for it. I've been doing mind tarot readings since I first buy my tarot deck in 2008. If you want to do mind tarot reading you definately need a book and memorized the meanings. It's a must. And all my mind tarot reading have been successful and accurate.

How do you ensure neutrality in the cards selected, Bart?

It's all about the shuffle, Bartman.

With a physical deck, the shuffle ensures that we aren't subconsciously influencing the cards selected. I'm not sure how this works in Mind Tarot.

If I want a "good" reading, how do I make sure that I don't influence the cards picked?

It depends on which card your mind is choosing.

Oh I didn't mean to offend you Bartmanhomer! I'm sorry if that's how it came across.

I didn't read the entire thread, just starting from page 11 and didn't realize you were referring to a different way to read Tarot...I thought you were referring to a deck. My apologies.

This is very different from how I read and teach - the meanings are loaded with esoteric depths, and they don't actually deviate in a reading (the Ten of Swords for example, never indicates and easy passage and fun times ahead). But there is much more nuance than many books suggest. Rachel Pollack is one writer who expands on the sacred meanings in a deeply meaningful way, without straying into New Age fluff and nonsense.
Memorization is absolutely critical, but it's by no means all a reader needs to do!
