I'm not entirely sure what it's made of either... It looks like Fimo or Sculpee. And I'm not sure if she bakes them or lets them sun dry. I will ask her as I'm super curious as well.

I don't have a wand, yet, but a small Banaba branch showed itself to me earlier this year that I plan to make into one. The Cormorant feather given to me last year is what I have been using to cast circles and focus intent, and it seems to work quite well. There was a connection I can't explain the second I picked it up and that connection hasn't faded one bit in the intervening time so I know it will continue to be a big part of my rituals even with a wand on hand.

In some cultures they use a feather. I can see using a feather as being valid. If it works for you and feels right then continue doing it. People sometimes get caught up in athames and other ritual tools partially as status symbols. But for the first couple of years I just used my hand for everything and it worked fine for me. I do tend to be a minimalist though.

At one point I had a traditional set of Wiccan tools but I found that I really only used one or two of them and now tend to go more minimalist as well. I do have quite a collection of divination tools and crystals, but as for traditional tools, I really only use a wand...

In Druidry the only tools I've learned of so far are a wand, staff, offering bowl and ceremonial clothing. Well, along with any divination tools you intend to include (Ogham sets, etc.).

It depends a lot on the person and their background, Princess. Like Cassie, Nacken and some others here, I learned the use of tools in what Americans call British Traditional Wicca, where each tool has a specific meaning and use.

My wife and I have three - arguably four - all pretty plain, made from special pieces of wood, two of which match particular chalices. We pretty much only use wand and chalice when we're on our own, I haven't tried even taking the wooden blade through customs recently and certainly wouldn't consider taking it to the US - if we really need 'blade' (technically in most Wicca the blade is a symbol for the practitioner's will) abroad we use the symbol of index and middle finger extended.

As others have already suggested, we use the wand primarily for focusing energy or intention. But that extends to circle casting and a number of practices in conjunction with the chalice, which are really also energy and/or intention.

A few people look down on practitioners who use tools at all. I wouldn't want to rely on them, but we find, particularly when you're working with others they're useful, in that they help coordinate and balance things. Which is why, if we're working with the group, we do things their way.

Real life enough? If you've more questions, ask away - I only bite if you ask very nicely.

Well I've gotten Gemstones that are called wands but they look nothing like the one LOT posted.

I didn't know if their properties were different somehow.
