Default Making your own runes?

I am in the process of acquiring some materials to make myself a couple of sets of runes. I'm wondering if anyone here has made their own, if so what materials have you used. and how did they turn out?

Don't use clay, lol. My first-ever set smashed to pieces when I dropped the bag they were in on the floor by accident. Use a sturdier material such as wood instead, and you'll be fine.

Black river rocks. I engraved the runes into them with a Dremel. At some point they grew legs and walked away.

I'm going to do an oak set and a black moonstone set as well. Working with wood makes me happy, I've got four projects on the go right now and loove it. Kicking and screaming I drag myself into creative work...out of my head for a little while...(out of, not off, please)

I made a clay set which works fine for me, but I don't carry them around much and have never dropped them. But they probably would crack if dropped. But I work with clay and have it around all the time. I would like to make a wooden set some day. I've been looking for a dremel for a good price. If I get one then making a rune set will be my first project.

I tend to use runes for meditation and occasional spellcasting rather than as an oracle.

I have one set I made from smoked glass and gold paint, looks very impressive on a piece of green baize. Wasted a lot of the sheet of glass getting the pieces cut and bevelled (used a cheap sharpening stone with stale milk as a lubricant) and fairly inevitably also ended up 'blooding' the runes a couple of times.

The set I tend to use (and as with Tarot, this is rare in any case) is beech, hand-cut and sanded smooth, with poker-work. I used a gas-fired soldering iron with a medium tip - the beastie is a cheap lightweight Chinese knock-off bought years ago and incredibly useful in comparison with either of my posh electric jobs.
